”This is mindfulness knitting, environmental knitting — something to think about with each stitch, each row. Thank you.” — K.
New Normal Tempestries are a visual representation of annual deviations-from-average temperature spanning 1895 to the present, and were inspired by Professor Ed Hawkins’ Warming Stripes climate data visualization work. We offer them in a Wall Hanging size and a Scarf size (see below for approximate measurements).
Kits include Knit or Crochet guidelines, worksheet, color card, and individually-wound balls of yarn calculated to match the number of years needed for each color.
For the knit version, we offer two different sizes: Wall Hanging or Scarf. The finished wall hanging measures approximately 8-9” by 30″, and finished scarf measures approximately 6-7” by 60.”
The crochet version measures about 8” wide 60” long and can be displayed as a wall hanging or worn as a scarf.
Our worksheet uses data from NOAA with a baseline averaged from 1951-1980. The darker the blue the cooler than average, and the darker red the warmer than average. The trajectory is painfully obvious.
$5 from each New Normal Kit sale will be donated to various environmental, climate, or other non-profits.

All our work is done in a smoke-free but cat-friendly home. While this particular cat is not prone to playing with yarn, her hair (as any pet owner knows) does occasionally stray.
