Original Tempestries are a visual embodiment of a year’s worth of daily high temperatures, January at the bottom and December at the top. A finished Original Tempestry will measure about 10-12” wide and about 4’ long. The size will vary depending on whether the piece is knitted in the linen stitch or the garter stitch, either of which are possible with this kit, as well as on the gauge of the knitter (though gauge is not important).

A single Original Tempestry makes for a beautiful personalized wall hanging, perfect for commemorating a particular year — perhaps of a birth, a graduation, or a wedding, etc. Multiple Tempestries together can create a life tapestry of events and places, or a visual embodiment of shifting temperatures over time.

ALL ORIGINAL TEMPESTRY KITS INCLUDE:

—One organza gift bag, 12”x14”
—Individually-wound bobbins of Tempestry wool yarn calculated to match the number of days in each temperature range for your selected year/location
—One Original Tempestry color card
—One project label
—One Original Tempestry project pattern/guidelines
—One Original Tempestry worksheet (this includes the daily high temperature data for the year and location of your choosing, the corresponding color for each day’s temperature, a progress column, and the weather station from which we retrieved your data)

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS:
—COMMEMORATIVE BEADS: 25 size-5 triangular silver-foil-lined glass beads to commemorate a specific day, to be placed on every other stitch of the day in question (with a few to spare just in case!), with optional 1.00mm crochet hook for beading.
—PRECIPITATION BEADS: get extra data-geeky by adding precipitation beads to your Tempestry, with optional 1.00mm crochet hook for beading.

We of course used an old-fashioned metal knitting needle (not included with kit) to hang ours, but a simple wooden dowel or driftwood or lots of other things would work just as well.
