We are excited to introduce our “New Normal” Tempestries!
These heartbreakingly beautiful pieces are inspired by Professor Ed Hawkins’ “Warming Stripes” data visualization work. Each one represents global annual temperature deviation-from-average (using a baseline calculated from 1950 to 1980). Each stripe represents one year, starting with 1880 at the bottom through 2018 at the top. This visualization clearly shows the rapid acceleration of climate change in the last half century.
While our original custom Tempestries tell the tale of climate change in more granular detail, these New Normal Tempestries tell the story at a much grander scale. We do plan to offer custom New Normal Tempestries as data is available for many countries, states/provinces, and cities; though for now we’re focused on the global representation.
